Synergy Float Center Review : A Wellness Escape in Alexandria VA

March 31, 2026 Cover image for the Synergy Float Center review which shows a person's legs floating in a float tub lit up with blue lights

As fun as traveling is, it’s also hard on your body and building a little wellness in is the perfect way to counteract the stress. Spas are typically out of range for me price wise, especially in the US, so I like to find other ways to get R&R. Synergy Float Center is the perfect spot near DCA and Washington D.C. for an affordable and super unique wellness experience.

*This is a sponsored review. That being said, I don’t post about sponsored experiences I have that I don’t recommend to others

I found Synergy Float Center while looking up wellness and meditation experiences near home that I could do while pregnant. A lotttttt of things are off limits and/or not fun during pregnancy like hot yoga, saunas, breath work etc. Floating is not only in the clear during pregnancy but also a way to connect with your baby, since they are having a similar experience in there.

Synergy Float Center offers floatation therapy with mineral salt baths, along with other treatments which utilize holistic healing methods like their infrared sauna, red light therapy, magnetic resonance therapy and quantum sound therapy.

These types of therapies promote natural healing from the inside out, without the side effects of some of the more commonly used treatments.

Floatation therapy itself, also known as sensory deprivation, works by creating a weightless, distraction-free environment which transforms your mental state and can promote natural healing. Benefits include anxiety and stress reduction, enhanced creativity, improved sleep, an increase in emotional clarity, AND a decrease in pain and inflammation.

I headed over on a rainy week day and had no problems finding it. There was plenty of designated parking spots too which is relatively rare where it is on the edge of Old Town Alexandria. After a very stressful first start of the day, I honestly didn’t expect to be able to get into any sort of zen mode during the hour long session.

The staff was friendly and showed me around before I started my float. They offer a few cool treatments that are meant to promote holistic wellness, and to help you get into a meditative state faster. Like a short cut to a deeper meditation. I’m excited to try their other services like the magnetic resonance or light therapy next time!

I was in room #4 which has an open pool / open air float tank and I loved it. If you’re worried at all about being claustrophobic I would start with this room. They also have another more open air room, along with rooms that offer sensory deprivation tanks and pods.

Inside my room there were shelves, a shower, a sauna and of course the float tub.

Before the float I was told to put in some ear plugs in (provided) then shower off, put some Vaseline (provided) on any cuts to prevent them from stinging in the salt and then to get in the tub. The lights in the room turn off automatically once you’re still in the tub.

Also, there was no music in my room but instead they had these awesome waterproof headphones that you could hear over your ear plugs easily.

I was so impressed and thought that was a really unique part of the experience! I loved the spa-like music they were playing. If you’re interested in buying some for yourself they are Shokz OpenSwim headphones.

I got into the tub and used both the floating headrest they gave me, and noodle which was to support my lower back in pregnancy.

The tub is about maybe a foot and a half deep? Or something like that, and the other water and air temp in the room are very similar which adds to the feeling of floating. I saw on the thermostat it was set to 84. Perfect!!

I was surprised to find that after I settled into a comfortable position and made sure I wasn’t clenching any of my muscles, I quickly relaxed into a calm state where I also felt super awake inside my mind – but again not jittery. I settled in in a natural way. I can only imagine how perfect this would be after a busy travel day or during down time on a more active vacation.

I’ve actually done something similar to this at Strom Spa in Montreal. The difference was this session was private in a small pool/tub, versus being in a big floating pool with others. As someone who is introverted I really liked having my own room.

After my hour inside was up I showered off and came back to reality slowly. You’re welcomed to refresh at the beauty station and/or have some tea or coffee in the lounge area to transition after your treatment as well.

Overall I had a great time and left feeling super relaxed. I’m 100% going to make it back here for another treatment soon! I highly recommend Synergy Float Center for anyone in the area hoping for a relaxation break before or after a flight, during your trip to the DC area OR for locals to help relax from the stress and daily pressures of every day life. Enjoy! ✨
